Have you ever heard of the "Butterfly Effect"? It is the idea that small things can make a big difference. For example, a butterfly flapping (拍打) its wings in Brazil might 16 cause a tornado in Texas. This might sound strange, 17 it shows how everything in the world is connected.
This idea can also be applied to our daily lives. A small act of 18, like smiling at a stranger or helping someone carry heavy bags, can start a chain (链条) of positive events. The person you helped might feel happier and then be 19 to others. In this way, your small action can spread far and wide.
I experienced this myself last week. I was in a 20 mood because I failed a math test. On my way home, I saw an old man trying to cross a busy street. I stopped and helped him. He thanked me with a warm smile and said, "God bless you, young man." Suddenly, my bad mood was 21. Helping him made me forget my own problem and feel useful.
Later that day, I decided to study harder for the next test. 22 I was reviewing my notes, my friend Tom called. He was upset about his English homework. 23 I was good at English, I explained the grammar to him patiently. He was very grateful. The next day, he bought me a cup of my favorite milk tea 24 a thank-you gift.
This small experience taught me a valuable 25: our actions, no matter how small, can create ripples (涟漪). You never know how much your kindness can 26 someone's day or even life. The world can be a better place if we all 27 to do small good things.
So, don't 28 the power of a small act. Try to do something nice for someone today. It could be as 29 as holding the door open for the person behind you or listening to a friend who needs to talk. These small things 30 together to make a big difference. Start your own positive "Butterfly Effect" today!

In recent years, "slow travel" has become popular among many people, especially the young. Unlike traditional tourism which tries to visit as many famous places as possible in a short time, slow travel focuses on experiencing the local culture and life deeply.
Slow travelers might stay in one city or village for a week or even longer. They rent an apartment, shop at local markets, cook their own meals, and make friends with neighbors. They don't rush. They may spend a whole afternoon sitting in a café, watching people go by, or reading a book in a park. The goal is not to check sights off a list, but to feel what it's like to live there.
This way of traveling has several benefits. First, it's less stressful. There's no need to wake up early every day to catch tour buses. Second, it's often cheaper because you avoid expensive hotels and tourist restaurants. Most importantly, it allows for real connections with local people and culture, which can be a life-changing experience.
Of course, slow travel is not for everyone. Some people have limited vacation time and want to see many different places. But if you have the time and want a more meaningful journey, why not give it a try?
35. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. The cost of slow travel.
B. How slow travelers spend their time.
C. Why young people like slow travel.
D. The differences between two travel styles.
36. According to the passage, which is NOT mentioned as a benefit of slow travel?
A. It saves money.
B. It reduces stress.
C. It helps understand local culture better.
D. It allows you to visit more famous sights.
37. The underlined word "meaningful" in the last paragraph probably means ______.
A. long and boring
B. short and exciting
C. having great importance or value
D. costing a lot of money
38. Who might prefer traditional tourism to slow travel?
A. A writer who wants to experience local life for a novel.
B. A student with a two-month summer holiday.
C. An office worker with only a 5-day annual leave.
D. A retired couple who want to make new friends abroad.
C
Have you ever wondered why your smartphone screen turns red at night? This feature is called "Night Shift" or "Blue Light Filter", and it's designed to protect your eyes and help you sleep better.
Electronic screens give off blue light. During the day, blue light is helpful because it keeps us awake and improves our attention. However, at night, blue light can be harmful. It tricks our brains into thinking it's still daytime. This slows down the production of melatonin (褪黑素), a hormone that tells our body it's time to sleep. As a result, we may find it harder to fall asleep after using phones or computers at night.
Night Shift mode changes the colors of your display to the warmer end of the color spectrum (光谱) — less blue and more yellow and red. These warmer colors have less effect on melatonin production. Many studies have shown that using this mode in the evening can indeed help people feel sleepier and improve sleep quality.
Experts suggest turning on Night Shift about two hours before bedtime. Besides using this mode, they also advise: 1) avoiding screens at least 30 minutes before sleep, 2) keeping your bedroom dark and cool, and 3) developing a regular sleep schedule.
So next time you use your phone at night, remember to turn on that little feature. Your eyes and your sleep will thank you!
39. What is the main purpose of the Night Shift feature?
A. To make the screen colors more beautiful.
B. To save the battery of the smartphone.
C. To reduce eye strain and improve sleep at night.
D. To protect the smartphone screen from damage.
40. Why is blue light bad at night?
A. It damages our eyes immediately.
B. It makes the screen too bright to see.
C. It stops our brain from producing melatonin.
D. It causes headaches.
41. What color does the screen have more of when Night Shift is on?
A. Blue.
B. Green.
C. Yellow and red.
D. White.
42. Which of the following is an expert suggestion for better sleep?
A. Playing video games before bed.
B. Keeping the bedroom warm and bright.
C. Going to bed at different times every day.
D. Avoiding screens 30 minutes before sleep.
D
For centuries, humans have looked at the sky and dreamed of flying. The story of how we achieved this dream is full of creativity, courage, and failure.
Early attempts were often based on copying birds. In the 15th century, Leonardo da Vinci drew detailed plans for flying machines with flapping wings, called ornithopters. However, human muscles are not strong enough to power such machines, so they never flew.
The real breakthrough came with the understanding of aerodynamics (空气动力学). In the 18th and 19th centuries, scientists experimented with gliders (滑翔机). George Cayley, called the "Father of Aviation", built the first successful human-carrying glider in 1853. It flew only a short distance, but it proved that a fixed-wing machine could fly.
The final step was adding power. Orville and Wilbur Wright, two American brothers, are credited with making the first controlled, powered flight in 1903. Their airplane, the Wright Flyer, stayed in the air for 12 seconds and flew 37 meters. It was a modest start, but it changed the world forever.
Today, aviation is a huge industry. Millions of people fly every day. We have supersonic jets, giant passenger planes, and even spacecraft. But it all started with a simple dream and the willingness to try, fail, and try again.
43. What was the main problem with Leonardo da Vinci's flying machines?
A. They were too heavy.
B. They didn't have wings.
C. Humans couldn't provide enough power for them.
D. They were not drawn in detail.
44. Who is known as the "Father of Aviation"?
A. Leonardo da Vinci.
B. George Cayley.
C. Orville Wright.
D. Wilbur Wright.
45. What was the key development that the Wright brothers achieved?
A. They built the first glider.
B. They drew plans for flying machines.
C. They made the first powered and controlled flight.
D. They invented the jet engine.

Tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world. It has a long history and is an important part of many cultures. There are mainly six types of tea: white, green, oolong, black, dark (like Pu'er), and yellow. They all come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis, but are processed differently.
Green tea is not fermented (发酵). The leaves are heated soon after picking to stop oxidation (氧化). This keeps the green color and fresh taste. It is famous in China and Japan.
Black tea is fully fermented. The leaves are rolled and exposed to air for a long time, which turns them dark and changes the flavor. It is very common in Western countries. English Breakfast Tea is a kind of black tea.
Oolong tea is partially fermented, somewhere between green and black tea. It has a wide range of flavors. Tieguanyin is a famous oolong tea from China.
Drinking tea is not only enjoyable but also healthy. Most teas are rich in antioxidants (抗氧化剂), which are good for our health. However, different teas have different benefits. Green tea is often said to help with weight loss. Black tea may be good for heart health.
To make a perfect cup of tea, water temperature and brewing (冲泡) time are important. Green tea needs cooler water (about 80°C) and a shorter time (1-3 minutes). Black tea needs boiling water (100°C) and a longer time (3-5 minutes).
Type of Tea | Fermentation Level | Processing Key Point | Brewing Water Temperature |
|---|---|---|---|
Green Tea | 46. ______ | Heated soon to stop oxidation | About 80°C |

Dear Mike,
I'm glad to hear that you are interested in the Dragon Boat Festival. It's one of the most important traditional festivals in China.
The festival falls on the 5th day of the 5th month in the Chinese lunar calendar, usually in June. It is held in memory of Qu Yuan, a great poet and patriot in ancient China. On this day, people eat zongzi, which is a kind of sticky rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves. Another exciting activity is the dragon boat race. People row boats shaped like dragons to the beat of drums. It's a lively and fun event.
I sincerely invite you to come to China next June to experience this unique festival yourself. I'm sure you will love it!
