After a long night's sleep, your body needs fuel to start the day. Eating breakfast provides you with energy and improves your concentration. Students who eat breakfast tend to perform better in school. They have better memory and are more focused during morning classes.
Breakfast also helps control your weight. When you skip breakfast, you are more likely to feel very hungry later and overeat at lunch or snack on unhealthy foods. Eating a healthy breakfast can kick-start your metabolism (新陈代谢) and help you burn calories throughout the day.
A good breakfast doesn't have to be complicated. A bowl of whole-grain cereal with milk, a piece of fruit, or some yogurt are all quick and healthy choices. Try to include some protein and fiber to keep you feeling full longer.

Many people think that the Great Wall of China is one long, continuous wall. But actually, it is a series of walls and fortifications (防御工事) built across the historical northern borders of China. The earliest walls were built over 2,000 years ago by different states to protect their territories. The most famous parts were built by the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, around 220 B.C. Later dynasties, especially the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), rebuilt and extended the wall.
The main purpose of the Great Wall was military defense. It was used to protect the Chinese states and empires from invasions by various nomadic groups (游牧民族). Watchtowers were built along the wall. Soldiers in these towers could send smoke signals to warn of attacks.
Today, the Great Wall is a symbol of China and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It attracts millions of visitors from all over the world every year. However, some sections are in poor condition due to natural erosion (侵蚀) and human damage. Protecting the Great Wall is an important task for China.
